At the age of 23, he teamed up with Claudia Abend to shoot his first film, the 12-minute Los pocillos. In 2009, Alvarez made and posted on YouTube a short film "Panic Attack!" A few weeks later, Federico signed a contract with the Ghost House Pictures film company.
