At 17, Andrew Birkin began working as a courier for the London office of 20th Century Fox. He received his profile education (production runner) in 1963. In 1965, under the direction of American director Stanley Kubrick, Birkin, as part of the technical staff, took part in the creation of the film "A Space Odyssey 2001". In 1966-1968. he continued to work under Kubrick's leadership, while achieving significant career growth.
In 1967, Andrew Birkin, as First Assistant Director, took part in the production of The Beatles' film The Magic Mysterious Journey.
In 1978, Birkin wrote the script for a television miniseries called The Lost Boys (docudrama), dedicated to the Scottish playwright and novelist.
In 1980, commissioned by 20th Century Fox, Andrew Birkey directed a 30-minute film called Sredni Vashtar. The motion picture was awarded the British Academy of Film and Television Arts (BAFTA) award.
In 1988, Andrew Birkin directed the feature film "Burning Mystery" according to his own script. The film won prizes at the Brussels and Venice Film Festivals in 1989.
