In the ensemble he sang in a quartet, led concerts and recited poetry, performed solo. In the army, he began to prepare for exams at the theater institute.
After the army, in September 1964, he again came to enter GITIS; the exams have already ended, but Leshchenko was enrolled in the institute, since they managed to remember the promising performer. In his second year, he was admitted to the Operetta Theater at the invitation of the chief director Georgy Anisimov, a teacher and singer at GITIS.
