Born May 5, 1957, Manchester, England - English actor, director, screenwriter and producer.

He spent his childhood in Eltham, Kent. Peter attended Christ Church, attended Wybourne Elementary School in New Eltham and Colfe's Grammar School in South London. He studied briefly at the Scottish Grammar School in Paisle, and in 1976 he became a student at the Drama Studio London ("DSL").

Howit made his debut in the Yorkshire historical series How We Lived, opposite actress Sue Jackins. After that, in the period from the late 1980s - early 1990s, the aspiring actor could be seen in the TV series One Screen, Bread, Momentum Run, Highlander, as well as the television films Punters and Ball-Trap on the Cote Sauvage ".

In the late 1990s, Peter Howit tested his abilities in new creative guises and directed a fantastic comedy based on his own script “Beware! Doors are Closing ”, which was released in January 1998. The tape stars Gwyneth Paltrow and John Hannah. He himself also played a small role in this film. His debut as a director was praised by professional critics, who awarded the creators the European Film Award for Best Screenplay and the Empire Awards for Best British Director.

Since the early 2000s, Peter has devoted himself entirely to directing and in 2000 released the crime thriller Dangerous Truth, where he also appeared as an actor. The film won awards at the Shanghai International Film Festival for Best Film and Best Director in 2001.

Peter then devoted his time to working on episodes of the drama series "Back to California" and his feature film "Agent Johnny English" (2003), starring Rowan Atkinson. A year later, Howitt introduced the audience to his new brainchild - the comedy melodrama Laws of Attraction with Pierce Brosnan and Julianne Moore in the lead roles.

In 2007, Peter finished work on his next film, the drama "Dangerous Parking Lot", in which he wrote the script and played the main character. The film won the Best Director award at the 2007 Tokyo Film Festival.

After that, Howit worked for some time on television projects and directed episodes for the science fiction series Contrary to Attraction, Beast, and co-wrote and directed the television film Rebel.

In January 2014, Howite's new film Reasonable Doubt premiered, starring Dominic Cooper and Samuel L. Jackson in the lead swarms. Now the director is working on the creation of a new film based on his own script "David Copperfield", which should be released on wide screens in 2016.
