What Happens After We Receive a Notice

Once we receive a complete and valid notice, we will:

  • Review the claim promptly
  • Remove or disable access to the material in question if the claim appears valid
  • Make a reasonable effort to notify the person who provided the material, where applicable
  • Keep a record of the notice

Most of the content on our Site is created by our own editorial team, so in many cases we’ll simply remove or replace the material ourselves and confirm with you once it’s done.

If you believe material was removed or disabled by mistake or misidentification, you may submit a counter-notice to the same email address with the subject line DMCA Counter-Notice. It must include:

  1. Your physical or electronic signature

After receiving a valid counter-notice, we may forward it to the original complainant. If they do not notify us that they have filed a court action seeking to restrain the alleged infringement within 10 to 14 business days, we may restore the removed material.

Misrepresentation Warning

Please be careful and honest when filing a notice or counter-notice. Under 17 U.S.C. § 512(f), anyone who knowingly makes a material misrepresentation that content is infringing, or that it was removed by mistake, may be liable for damages, including costs and attorneys’ fees.

Before submitting a notice, consider whether the use of the material may qualify as fair use, such as commentary, criticism, news reporting, or research. If you’re unsure whether your rights are being infringed, you may want to consult a lawyer.

Repeat Infringers

Where appropriate, we will remove content and restrict access for anyone who repeatedly infringes the copyrights of others.

This process is only for copyright claims. If you are a performer or representative with a concern about the accuracy of a biography or a privacy issue, please use our Contact page instead. Our standards for accuracy and privacy are explained in our Editorial Policy.
