She is studying at the American School of Advanced English in Barcelona, ??her third language after Spanish and Catalan. When she was 11 years old, director Guillermo del Toro chose her to play Ophelia in Pan's Labyrinth, for which Ivana received five film awards and positive reviews from critics.
Ivana Baquero performed several minor film roles prior to her role in Pan's Labyrinth. Her biggest role was in Fragility (2005), where she co-starred with Calista Flockhart and Richard Roxburgh.
Baquero was selected from approximately 1,000 children who auditioned for a role in Pan's Labyrinth. Del Toro said that when he saw her curly hair, he realized that she was perfect for the role. Ophelia's initial script was supposed to be 8 years old, but the script was specially rewritten for Bakero, who was 11 at the time.
Anarchist's Wife (2008) is Baquero's next film. The film is set again during the Spanish Civil War. Ivana plays a minor role as Paloma, a 15-year-old girl.
