Lon Cheney Jr. - biography, date of birth, place of birth, filmography, clips, Actor.
February 10, 1906, Oklahoma City, USA - July 12, 1973, San Clemente, USA - American actor.
In 1913, his parents' marriage fell apart after a scandalous suicide attempt by his mother. Until 1916, Creighton lived in various boarding schools, until his father remarried with Hazel Hastings, as a result of which the family became more or less complete. The actor's biographers say that he did not know that his mother did not die - until the death of his father in 1931. From his youth, Creighton worked hard so that he was not perceived as the shadow of an outstanding father. At the same time, Lon Cheney hindered his son's artistic career, and there is not a single film where the elder and younger Cheney played together - and this despite the fact that the fame of Lon Cheney Sr. was comparable only to the popularity of Charlie Chaplin. Creighton Cheney's acting career began after the death of his father in 1931. Until 1935, he performed under his real name, which was then changed to Lon Cheney Jr., and in subsequent years simply to Lon Cheney. The actor came to real popularity in 1941, after he began to play the wolf-man Lawrence Talbot in the corresponding cycle of the Classic series of horror films from Universal Studios. Unlike other monsters, Lawrence Talbot (played by Lon Cheney Jr.) turned out to be deeply suffering from his monstrous nature, constantly wanting to solve his problem and protect people from his uncontrollable state even at the cost of his own life. Thus, the wolf-man became almost the first suffering monster on the silver screen, although by and large Cheney Jr. continued his father's work in this - both in Quasimodo and in Eric, tragic motives emerge. All the roles of the wolf man were played by Lon Cheney Jr., which could not but arouse the sympathy of the audience for the actor. It should be noted that Lon Cheney Jr. played not only the wolf-man, but also Count Dracula (in the film "Son of Dracula"), the monster of Frankenstein (in the film "Ghost of Frankenstein") and the Mummy in several films of the cycle. Thus, Lone Cheney Jr. is the only actor to bring the four main characters to the Universal horror series on screen. Cheney tried to appear in westerns, but his height and overweight did not fit well with the image of a typical representative of the genre. After the completion of the Universal cycle, the actor had to appear in low-budget films. In recent years, he has played wordless roles - including due to his illness - throat cancer, from which his father died. Lon Cheney Jr.'s last role is as Groton, Dr. Frankenstein's mute henchman, in Dracula vs. Frankenstein (1971) .
The actor died of metastatic liver damage in 1973. He bequeathed his body for medical research.
