Born July 14, 1952 in the suburb of New Jersey - South Orange, USA. After producing and acting on undergraduate films while attending New York University, Silver landed a job as Assistant Producer Lawrence Gordon. Joel's first work in this capacity was the 1979 film The Warriors. Soon Silver was appointed president of one of the departments of the film company - 'Lawrence Gordon Pictures'. Together with Gordon Silver produced the hit film '48 Hours' (48 Hrs., 1982), the teenage comedy 'Oh, That Science!' (Weird Science, 1985), as well as the musical 'Xanadu' (Xanadu, 1980), the film 'Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde together again' (Jekyll and Hyde ... Together Again, 1982) and one of the many remakes of 'Brewster's Millions' (Brewster's Millions, 1985) .
By 1985, Silver had gained enough experience to create an independent brand called Silver Pictures. In the same year, the newly minted company released the film 'Commando' with Arnold Schwarzenegger in the title role. The film earned a good box office, and Joel decided to continue directing action films. So, the following works from the studio 'Silver Pictures' were: 'Lethal Weapon' (1987, 1989 and 1992), the first two parts of 'Die Hard' (Die Hard, 1988 and 1990), 'Predator' (Predator , 1987) and 'Predator-2' (Predator-2, 1990). Most of the films produced by Silver have been more than successful, however, he also has a 'contribution of honesty' to his account: the terrifying films of 'The Adventures of Ford Ferlane' Several of the following films were filmed in the genre of high-octane thriller: 'Destroyer' (Demolition Man, 1993), 'Assassins' (Assassins, 1995) and 'Fair Game' (Fair Game, 1995), 'Ordered to Destroy' (Executive Decision, 1996) ... After creating a fertile ground for the 'growing' of exciting action and action games, the main components of which were carnage, explosions and action-packed plot, Silver decided to continue working in the same spirit - only to transfer his ideas to television films. So, together with Richard Donner, David Geeler, Walter Heal and Robert Zemeckis, he created a long horror anthology Tales From the Crypt. In the work on the series 'Tales ...' entitled 'Split Personality' (Split Personality, 1922) Silver first tried himself as a director.
Silver has also collaborated with several channels, working on several television projects, including 'Parker Kane' (Parker Kane, 1990 NBC), 'Stories of Strong People (Two-Fisted Tales, 1992, Fox) and' The First Century of Cinema: The History of Hollywood '(The First 100 Years: A Celebration of American Movies, 1995, HBO) .
On his creative path, Silver had a chance to visit not only the other side of the cameras - in 1988 he starred in a cameo role in the film 'Who Framed Roger Rabbit' (Who Framed Roger Rabbit).
