Hayes's debut took place back in 1986, but popularity came to him only after the release of the comedy series Will and Grace (1998-2006). For his performance, the actor was nominated for six Golden Globes, won an Emmy and four Screen Actors Guild Awards.
In addition to the sitcom Will and Grace, Hayes has also played on stage and in films. Billy's Hollywood Kiss (1998), Date with a Star (2004), Until I Played in the Box (2007) and The Bluesmen (2008) are the most famous films with his participation. In 2013, he starred in the sitcom Sean Keeps the Peace.
