Born May 7, 1940, Newcastle upon Tyne, UK - British film director and screenwriter.
Graduated from the London Film School in 1958. He began working as an assistant director for the British Transport Films documentary organization, and until 1980 his work was on documentaries and short films. In 1969, he filmed a documentary about the Vietnam War, which was later used in the film The Hamburger Height.
In 1980, John Irwin directed his first film for the big screen, Dogs of War. According to critics, Irwin's most successful films were "Widow Mountain", which received 15 positive reviews out of 15, and The Hamburger Height with 11 positive reviews out of 11; the films "The Turtle Diaries" (9 out of 10), "A Month by the Lake" (12 out of 17), and "Dogs of War" (10 out of 14) also received high marks.
