Born October 17, 1966, Sedgefield, County Durham, England, UK - English actor, screenwriter, producer and writer.

As a child, he was fond of watching horror films by the Hammer studio, reading books by Arthur Conan Doyle and Herbert Wells, collecting fossils. All childhood hobbies found their embodiment in the work of Gatiss in adulthood.

Mark attended Heighington CE Primary School, then Woodham Comprehensive School in Newton Icliffe, Durham, and then studied theater at Bretton Hall College, which is a branch of the University of Leeds.

One of four members of the famous UK comedy troupe The League of Gentlemen, which won the British Academy Television Award and received the prestigious Rose d'Or de Montreux. He is known as one of the writers and actors of the series "Sherlock", as well as a writer and actor of the series "Doctor Who".
