Winner of the 2002 Goya Award (Best Actress) for her role as Queen Juana of Castile in Vicente Aranda's Madness of Love. He is a laureate of a number of Spanish cinematographic awards. The paternal ancestors of the actress belong to the Spanish nobles from Extremadura. She is a direct descendant of Christopher Columbus and Diego Colon.
