Honored Artist of the RSFSR.
He graduated from the acting department of the Kalinin branch of the studio school at the Moscow Art Theater in 1967.
He worked at the Kalinin Regional Drama Theater.
He was accepted into the troupe of the Moscow Theater on Malaya Bronnaya, where he worked for 20 years.
He began to engage in directing professionally under the direct influence of the work of Anatoly Efros. He worked with the Master as a director in staging the play "Napoleon the First" based on the play by F. Bruckner.
Husband of actress Anna Kamenkova.
