Born April 28, 1961, New Plymouth, New Zealand is a New Zealand writer, director, screenwriter and producer.
His first novel "Spinners" (2000) was among the top ten novels of the year by Esquire magazine.
He made his film debut as a director and screenwriter for Via Satellite (1998), and McCarten's next directorial project was Demonstration of Hands (2008).
McCarten won the Austrian Youth Literature Prize for Death of a Superhero in 2008 and was filmed in 2011.
