This team from the northern town of Skellefty was formed in 1988. All of its members were previously visitors to the alternative lovers club, where The Cult and Joy Division, Sex Pistols and Kraftwerk were equally honored. Per Wicksten (vocals), Stefan Schonfeldt (guitar), Fredrik Schonfeldt (bass), Gunnar Karlsson (drums), Christina Bergmark (keyboards) and Bjorn Malmqvist (violin) played their first concert in October 1988 at a festival in support of the Nicaraguan Sandinists. Just a week after that event, the whole company visited the local studio "KN" and recorded three songs. In February 1989, these compositions were released in the form of the EP "Smile", and a little later, much to the surprise of the musicians themselves, they sounded on the air of indie radio stations. Further events developed quickly enough and after appearing at the Hultsfred festival, the band was offered a contract from MNW Records. Wannadies In May 1990 the first single was released, and in August of the same year the debut album "The Wannadies" appeared. The release of the disc was accompanied by the appearance of the group on TV, touring Scandinavia and participation in several European festivals. In the fall of 1992, the band finished work on the second LP, "Aquanautic". In support of the album, several singles were released and two videos were shot (both were banned from showing on MTV). In the summer of 1993, Bjorn Malmqvist moved to Stockholm, and the group was left without a violinist. The recording of the third album was postponed several times for various reasons, but when all the obstacles were overcome, "Wannadies" received not only a bunch of flattering reviews in their homeland, but also a contract with the British firm "Indolent Records".
