Born on February 5, 1939, Kharkiv - Soviet, Russian and Ukrainian writer, publicist. Member of the Writers' Union (1975), member and vice-president (1989-91) of the Russian PEN Center. Laureate of the USSR State Prize (1989). Strelyany's prose and articles are mainly devoted to rural life and economic problems. Lives mainly in the Poltava region in the village of Yablonka.
