In 1960 he graduated from the camera department of VGIK (workshop of Boris Volchek).
He worked as a cameraman at the Sverdlovsk film studio, a director of photography at the Belarusfilm film studio, since 1965 - at the Mosfilm film studio.
Since 1989 he taught camera skills at VGIK.
People's Artist of Russia (1992) .
The operator was buried at the Kuntsevo cemetery in Moscow.
