After leaving school, John Leeson worked in a bookstore and then as a doorman at Royal Leicester Hospital. In his hometown, he joined the Drama Society, and then the Royal Academy of Dramatic Arts. After graduating from the academy, Leeson worked in the theater, where he met his future wife Judy Ducker.
