Born in Sverdlovsk on February 25, 1959. After graduating from school, he entered the Gorky Pedagogical Institute at the translation faculty. Two years after graduation in 1981, he got a job as an assistant director at the Sverdlovsk Film Studio. In 1990, he graduated from the Higher Courses for Scriptwriters and Directors.

In 2000, the long-awaited continuation of the story about Danil Bagrov was released on the screens of cinemas. A much less psychologically profound film "Brother 2" (2000), in which, apart from Sergei Bodrov and Viktor Sukhorukov, who were familiar to the viewer from the first part, appeared actors Sergei Makovetsky, Kirill Pirogov and the popular pop singer Irina Saltykova, had little in common with the first part. Despite this, she enjoyed success with the audience. As in the first "brother", one of the components of the film's success was the film's excellent soundtrack, which gave a significant boost to the careers of groups and performers little known at the time of the film's release, such as Chicherina, Zemfira, Masha and the Bears ...
