Cradle of Filth is an extreme metal band from England whose name translates as Cradle of Depravity. It was founded in 1991 by Daniel Lloyd Davy. Initially, the band had a preference for black metal, but over time their compositions have evolved towards a purer amalgam of gothic metal, as well as extreme types of metal such as symphonic black. The collective's lyrics clearly show the influence of Gothic literature, horror films, mythology and poetry of these genres.
