Pavel Luspekaev was born on April 20, 1927 in the village of Bolshiye Saly, Rostov Region. His father, Bogdasar Luspekyan, was Armenian, and his mother, Serafima Kovaleva, was a Cossack. In the early 1940s, Luspekaev was enrolled in the Lugansk vocational school. Some time later, Pavel was evacuated to Frunze, where he received the position of a locksmith.
At the age of 15, Pavel joined the ranks of volunteers and went to war. He was a member of one of the partisan detachments, took part in the hostilities in a group of scouts many times. In one of the battles, an explosive bullet hit Luspekaev's hand, which crushed his elbow. The doctors' verdict is immediate amputation. But Paul was able to convince them to try all sorts of options and only as a last resort to deprive him of his hand. The limb was lucky to be saved.
