Jason O'Mara was born and raised in Sandycove in southern Dublin, Ireland. His parents are Veronica and Stephen O'Mara; he has a brother Stephen and a sister Rebecca.
As a child, Jason enjoyed playing rugby and had little interest in acting until he was injured. After that, he decided to try himself in a school play and subsequently began to actively participate in various productions. Jason graduated from Trinity College with a BA in Drama and Theater. Then he moved to London, where he began acting on the stage.
