Born March 19, 1878. In 1900 he graduated from the Moscow Stroganov Art School. From 1900 he worked as a decorator at the S. Zimin Opera House. In 1905-1912. - at the Moscow Art Theater, the Maly Theater, etc. Since 1915 he moved to the cinema; one of the founders of Russian film-decorative art, set designer and decorator of the films "Russian Golden Series" by P. Timan.
People's Artist of the RSFSR (1944) .
He died on October 8, 1960.
