In 1967 he graduated from the directing department of VGIK. In 1967, a young, promising director, one of the best students of the film director Alexander Stolper, went to work at the Sverdlovsk Film Studio. Here Baras Khalzanov shot all his 11 films. The first - "White Horse" - was awarded a medal at the 1968 Tashkent International Film Festival. The last and one of the best films - "A Dream at the Beginning of the Fog" based on the novel of the same name by Yuri Rytkheu - was filmed in 1993. Author of 7 collections of poetry.
