The actor's point of view about his best role and the viewers' opinion about the same often do not coincide. This mysterious phenomenon is rather difficult to explain, but this is exactly what happened in the life of Efim Kopelyan. He himself considered the image of Savva Morozov in the biographical drama Nikolai Bauman to be his strongest role in cinema, and for millions of viewers, Efim Kopelyan forever remained ataman Burnash from the trilogy about the Elusive Avengers.

Efim Zakharovich (Zalmanovich) Kopelyan comes from the Belarusian town of Rechitsa. He was the fifth of six brothers in a large, wealthy Jewish family.

The first link in the chain of events that brought him to the stage of the Bolshoi Drama Theater was his arrival in Leningrad in 1929. Working as a turner, studying at the Faculty of Architecture of the Academy of Arts, part-time work in the extras of the BDT ended with admission to the theatrical studio of the State Academy of Theaters.

Kopelyan always had roles in the Bolshoi, but only with the arrival of the epoch-making director Georgy Tovstonogov, the actor Yefim Kopelyan fully revealed himself. He played both major and minor roles in all performances, and each image he created was deep and complete. Such are Mario in the play Signor Mario writes a comedy and Ilyin in the drama Five Evenings.
