Grigory Gladkov was born in Khabarovsk, lived and studied in Bryansk. In 1975 he graduated from the Institute of Transport Mechanical Engineering with a degree in electrical engineer for urban transport. He began composing and performing songs in 1968. In 1975 he moved to Leningrad by assignment, where he entered the music school in the guitar and music theory classes, graduated in 1980. In 1979 he entered the Leningrad State Institute of Culture, from which he graduated in 1984
