She was born on November 2, 1961, better known by her stage name kd lang (she specially writes her initials and surname with small letters), is a famous Canadian pop and country singer-songwriter.
Winner of four Grammy awards, she is also known as a Buddhist, vegetarian, animal rights activist, openly lesbian and LGBT activist. She performed the song "Turn me round" at the Olympic Games in winter 1988 (Calgary, Canada), as well as at the opening ceremony of the 2010 Winter Olympics with Leonard Cohen's song "Hallelujah" in memory of the athlete who died that day. Catherine is the owner of the mezzo-soprano vocal range.
