Sofiko Chiaureli became the successor of a glorious family. Her father is a talented director Mikhail Edisherovich, her mother is a famous actress Veriko Ivlianovna, according to the English Academy of Arts she is one of the ten greatest artists of the 20th century. Among the relatives is Georgy Danelia, a cousin.

Entering a theater university after graduation was a natural course of events for Sofiko. The Moscow VGIK opened its doors for Chiaureli in 1955, and already in her sophomore year her first debut film Our Yard was released, where she played the main role - Tsitsino. Her partner in the film was a classmate, he is also the beloved husband of Georgy Shengelaya. The following films with the participation of Sofiko Chiaureli, with few exceptions, are marked by her main roles: Lali in the film A Tale of a Girl (1960), where Sofiko's father acted as director, and her mother and husband worked on the same set; Tamara in the drama On the banks of the Inguri (1961); Mzekala in the melodrama Khevsurian ballad (1965); Taisiya in the comedy Other Times Now (1965).

Her theatrical career, despite numerous offers from Moscow theaters, began at the Academic Theater. K. Mardzhanishvili (Tbilisi), where she worked with a break of 4 years (she served in the Sh. Rustaveli Theater, 1964-1968) until the end of her days.

In the film The Blossom of Pomegranate (1968), director Sergei Parajanov, who considered Sofiko his muse, entrusted the actress to play six roles. Having brilliantly coped with the task in the movie parable, Chiaureli began filming in the musical comedy Melodies of the Veria Quarter (1973), which can be considered the first Soviet musical.

One of the most famous film works was the film with Sofiko Chiaureli Look for a Woman (1982). Mademoiselle Postik in her performance is excellent, the image is played out to the smallest details, and the ease with which Sofiko works in the frame, once again confirms her unofficial title - the greatest actress of the Georgian people.

Sofiko Chiaureli is the winner of numerous national and international awards for the best female roles, People's Artist of the Georgian (1976) and Armenian (1979) SSRs. She was married twice. From her first husband Georgy Shengelaya, she gave birth to two sons - Niko and Alexander. The second husband is Kote Makharadze.

She died on 03/02/2008.
