Galina Klimentyevna Makarova was born on December 27, 1919 in the village of Starobin. Galina's family was rather poor, since her father, who served during the First World War on the side of the Russian Empire, was condemned by the Stalinist regime. After that, the family tried to carefully hide the fact that the head of their family was repressed. After leaving school, at the age of 16, Galina moved to the capital of Belarus, Minsk, where she got a job as an ordinary housekeeper. After a short and monotonous, routine life in the capital, Galina Makarova decides to enter the studio of the First Belarusian Drama Theater, which she graduates in 1938, and gets a permanent job in a troupe at the theater.
During her studies, Galina changed her first and last name (she was originally Agatha Chekhovich) to hide her father's past. Also, while studying acting, she was seriously interested in various kinds of extreme sports, including equestrian.
A year later, she marries Ivan Makarov, after which she takes his last name. At first, the roles of Galina Makarova were rather monotonous, she played typical "Cinderellas", but soon gained a little fame and began to change roles more often.
Since 1958, she began to act in films, because she believed that cinema was the future, but she did not abandon the theater and sometimes returned to the stage. The last film with Galina Makarova is called Better to be beautiful and rich. For her services to the fatherland she received the title of People's Artist of the USSR and the Order of Lenin.
Galina Makarova was married twice. Has two children: son Edward and daughter Tatiana.
She passed away on September 28, 1993.
