Born on October 18, 1927 in the village of Staroe Sindrovo, Penza province, Krasnoslobodsky district (now the Republic of Mordovia) .
In 1949 he graduated from the Mordovian studio of GITIS, in 1953 - from the acting department of VGIK, workshop of Sergei Gerasimov and Tamara Makarova. After graduation, he was enrolled in the Film Actor's Studio Theater, where he worked until 1990.
