Soviet theater artist, comedy film actor Ivan Peltzer was born in 1871 on November 9 in the Russian Empire. His ancestors were Germans who, during the reign of Ivan the Terrible, moved to Russia from the Rhineland, were engaged in sewing fur coats. All his adult life he called himself Ivan Romanovich, although at birth he was named Johann Robertovich.

After graduating from the gymnasium, Ivan entered the theater school in Moscow and graduated with honors in 1893. In the same year he made his stage debut in the production of Thunderstorm at the Belgorod Theater. He studied piano with Rachmaninoff. In 1900, Ivan Romanovich was invited to the Korsch Theater, where he played many roles and was able to win millions of hearts with his unbridled temperament, inextinguishable and creative energy. He showed himself as a talented teacher, was able to organize his own small theater of miniatures in Kharkov. And then the revolution began. The performances became unnecessary to anyone, the enterprises were closed, hunger and poverty reigned, but Peltzer was not used to sitting idly by, he had to feed his family. He began to work as a mentor in eleven places at the same time, received additional food rations. Then he already had two children: Tatiana, who became a legendary actress, and Alexander, who later did not follow in his father's footsteps, but worked as an engineer at a factory, was fond of developing racing cars.

The first film with Ivan Peltzer, The Siberian Atamansha, appeared on screens in 1916. The actor played the role of Yashka in a drama about robbers of Siberia. Despite the turbulent times, films were still released on screens. As a rule, these were revolutionary works, patriotic tapes, paintings about painful things to raise the spirits of the population through the comedy genre. The best work of that time was the film Bear (1938) with the participation of the artist. During the war, Ivan Romanovich miraculously managed to escape deportation because of his nationality. For the merits received, his family was given "letters of protection", and he stayed to work at the Moscow theater of the Moscow City Council. In 1946, the first honored artist of the Republic was admitted to the Theater Studio of the film actor, which allowed him to get his own housing near the Airport metro station, where he lived with his daughter and a huge parrot. From the end of the 50s he stopped going on stage, but until recently he worked, despite his blindness.

Peltzer's first wife, Evgenia Sergeevna, died in 1952, but the active and cheerful artist married for the second time at 75 years old to actress Olga Suprotivnaya.
