Rick Aviles' parents emigrated from Puerto Rico to the United States in the late 1940s in search of a better lifestyle. They lived in Manhattan, New York, where Rick was born.
In the 1970s and 1980s, he worked as a comedian at a nightclub in Greenwich Village, New York. Since 1981 he has acted in films. He became famous for the role of Willie Lopez from the film "Ghost" (1990). In total, he played about 30 roles in films and television series.
By taking heroin, Aviles contracted HIV and died on March 17, 1995 at the age of 42 from complications of AIDS.
