Oscar Fingal O'Flahertie Wills Wilde (October 16, 1854 - November 30, 1900) - English philosopher, esthete, writer, poet, playwright, publicist, essayist, journalist of Irish origin.
One of the most famous playwrights of the late Victorian period, a prominent celebrity of his time. London dandy, later convicted of "indecent behavior" and after two years in prison and correctional labor left for France, where he lived in poverty and oblivion under a changed name and surname.
He is best known for his plays full of paradoxes, catch phrases and aphorisms, as well as the novel "The Picture of Dorian Gray" (1891).
