Joe Satriani - biography, date of birth, place of birth, filmography, clips, Actor.

Born July 15, 1956, Long Island, New York, USA - American virtuoso guitarist.

He began his acquaintance with music at the age of nine with drums, and immediately began to take lessons. At first, he had a rather peculiar setup, which consisted of a coffee can and a rubber pad. His father came up with a way to stimulate his son's education: when Joe did his next assignment and showed that he was a responsible, growing musician, he received something else, for example, a hi-hat. So, after two years of training, when Joe could already sight-read and improvise, he finally had a little Ludwig installation. Satriani soon realized that he was not good enough like those he listened to, he felt as if he lacked something physically to play drums and decided to take a break from music.

At the same time, Joe begins to get involved in the music of Jimi Hendrix, Cream, and Led Zeppelin. He decides for sure if he will take up music again, it will certainly be a guitar, and soon after the death of Hendrix he finally makes his choice in favor of a guitar and begins to diligently study the guitar presented to him - Hagstrom III.

At Carl Place High School, where Joe studied, in addition to general lessons, he had to participate in either the choir or the orchestra. There he was taught elementary musical theory, as well as sight-singing. At the same time, Joe begins to learn from books and harmonic schemes, which he takes from his friends.

Having quickly mastered the guitar, in parallel with his studies, he begins to give lessons himself. Steve Vai was one of his first students. However, training is nothing more than a side income for Satriani.

Then Joe moved in the same direction, in 11-12 grades he began to study music theory. This was already an advanced music theory, where he was taught how to write symphonies, cantatas and string quartets. At that time, while studying in New York, they passed exams at the level of the state board of trustees - they were taught very seriously. His teacher Bill Wescott was truly a music enthusiast.

In parallel with his studies, Joe performs at school dances and in parks, receiving money for this, and at 16 he was already playing in clubs.

Bill Wescott taught so thoroughly that when Joe left school he didn't have to go to college. By this time, he already had a lot of professional experience in the music field. Father's older brother Joe worked as a musician all his life. So he softened the family's reaction to Joe's statement, "I'm going to quit school and become a professional musician." So Joe met no opposition.

After school, Satriani moved to San Francisco, where he continued to perfect his playing technique, working as a session musician and also as a teacher. For about ten years, while working part-time in a music store, he constantly worked with novice guitarists. Personalities such as Kirk Lee Hammett (Metallica), Larry LaLonde (Primus), David Bryson (Counting Crows), jazz fusion master Charlie Hunter have passed through his hands. In addition to teaching, Joe constantly performs with various teams, not staying in any of them for a long time. The longest existed was The Squares, where drummer Jeff Campitelli played with whom Joe would later spend more than a dozen years together.

In the early 80s, Satriani began to think about a solo career. In 1984, he independently recorded, and then released (at his own expense) his debut album "Joe Satriani" on an independent label, but the album does not attract public attention. This changed in 1986 when one of Satriani's best students, Steve Vai, came to the attention of the media thanks to his successful teamwork with David Lee Roth. In interviews with leading American publications, Wai has repeatedly mentioned his wonderful teacher and good friend Joe Satriani. This unplanned promotional campaign successfully coincided with the release of his solo debut album "Not Of This Earth", as a result of which public interest in Joe began to gradually increase. In 1986 he took part in The Greg Kihn Band on the album Love & Rock'N'Roll "In 1987, after the release of the second disc" Surfing With The Alien ", Satriani woke up famous, his photographs adorned all guitar magazines. The album went platinum in the United States. Mick Jagger himself invited him on a tour of Australia and Japan.

A year later the album (EP) "Dreaming # 11" (1988) was released, combining studio compositions and live tracks. And a year later, Satriani's third full-length album, Flying In A Blue Dream (1989), was released, on which Joe debuted as a vocalist. The song "One Big Rush" from this album was used as the soundtrack for Cameron Crowe's "Say Anything".

Around this time, Joe began collaborating with Ibanez, resulting in the development of a signature guitar, the Ibanez JS Signature. Due to the work on the guitar, Satriani's next album "The Extremist" was released only in 1992, however, despite a long break, the album showed excellent results in the American charts.

In 1993 a double CD "Time Machine" was released. The first disc contains studio recordings and "bonus tracks from foreign albums", plus tracks from the first album "Joe Satriani" and three new recordings. The second disc includes 14 live recordings.

At the end of 1993, Satriani received an offer to take the place of the departed Ritchie Blackmore in Deep Purple. After a moment's hesitation, Joe agreed. The task was not easy, as it was necessary to learn a large amount of material in a short time, but Joe coped with this task, he even received an offer from Deep Purple to stay in the group as a permanent guitarist, but Joe refused.

In 1995, Joe embarked on a promising guitar project called G3 - it was assumed that three bright and distinctive guitarists would participate in it.

Soon, the G3 “festival” grew from a one-off event into an annual marathon show with the obligatory participation of Joe Satriani and Steve Vai, each time joined by a new guitarist: Robert Fripp, Eric Johnson, Yngwie Malmsteen and John Petrucci from Dream Theater, and other guitarists.

In 1998, Joe Satriani's next studio album, "Crystal Planet" (Top 50 USA), was released, after which the G3 continued to tour the United States.

In 2000, Joe embarked on a daring experiment with electronic effects on his album Engines of Creation. The composition "Until We Say Goodbye" from this album was nominated for a Grammy in the category "Best Rock Instrumental Performance", but as before Joe did not receive the award. In total, during his career, Satriani became a Grammy nominee 15 times.

In 2001 the live album "Live in San Francisco" was released, with the recording of Joe Satriani's concert in San Francisco in December 2000. A year later, Joe released his new studio album "Strange Beautiful Music".

In addition to his own work, Satriani has appeared on the albums of various artists, among them: "Radio Free Albemuth" by Stuart Hamm, "Hey Stoopid" by Alice Cooper, "All Sides Now" by Pat Martino.

In 2004 a new studio disc “Is There Love in Space?” was released. In two compositions, Satriani performed the vocal parts himself, which he had not done for 15 years. Joe collaborated on this album: permanent drummer Jeff Campitelli, bassist Matt Bissonette, keyboardist and guitarist Eric Caudieux.

The DVD "G3 - Live In Tokyo" is released in 2005. G3 show in Japan featuring John Petrucci with Joe Satriani and Steve Vai.

In early 2006, Joe released his next studio album "Super Colossal". After the recording of this album, Satriani, along with his renewed team (instead of the departed Matt Bissonet, bassist Dave Larue joined Joe) embarks on a world tour in support of the new album. Russia, unfortunately, was not included in the list of countries where Satriani gave concerts.

In December 2007, Joe was again nominated for a Grammy for a live performance of his song Always With Me, Always With You.

In the same year the album "Surfing With The Alien (Legacy Edition)" was reissued, in which all the tracks of the 1987 album were reworked and recorded.
