Deep Island is a "Progressive Trip-Hop" band performing in English. On the territory of Ukraine, it is the first among the representatives of such a non-standard direction. Their work is created through the interweaving of genres such as lounge, trip-hop, psycho and lo-fi. For the extraordinary sound of their music, the cultures of various countries around the world were studied.
The founder of Deep Island is Evgeniy Boyarchuk, who performs under the pseudonym Mase Daniel. The creation of the group began in 2006, when Eugene was living in Britain. His musical career began in 1996. Then he became a DJ and since then has not left the music industry. On his account there are already three musical projects in completely different directions. In the rules of a musician, do not stand still and constantly develop in something new.
In 2007 the band began recording their debut album. At that moment, the group consisted of two people: vocalist Tatyana Belokhvost and a longtime friend of Eugene named Yuri Vanik, who became a guitarist. Tanita White and Yuriy Madje are their aliases. The disc was released in 2008 under the name Black, Red & White thanks to the Ukrainian label Moon Records.
In May 2008 filming for the video “Emotions” took place. Soon after their end, a split occurred between the soloist and the founder. In June, Tatyana was replaced by a girl named Anastasia Smaglyuk, who began performing under the pseudonym Nate Mahg. She made her debut at the presentation of the video "Disappointed", which took place in the same year in Kiev. But due to disagreements in music, two months later, Anastasia also left the group. Since then, for how many years Deep Island has been on sabbatical.
British culture has played an important role in the work of Eugene. He realized that the local musical culture and his preferences were the same, so he wanted to target Deep Island to an overseas audience. Moreover, in Ukraine such an independent and non-standard musical culture is less developed. But he had a desire to try. Having provided such musical material to his friends who passed it on, he received many positive reviews. This pushed him to beginnings. Perhaps 2015 will be a good year for Deep Island and they will be able to resume their creativity.
