Born April 12, 1973, Cairo, Egypt is an Egyptian television, theater and film actor who is best known for portraying oriental and Mediterranean characters.
Graduated from the American University of Cairo and played in theater from 1992 to 2002. Initially, he only moonlighted as an actor, relying on his main job as a stock trader, before devoting himself entirely to his acting career. Waked joined the protests against the Egyptian government in 2011, as well as the protests against Mohammad Morsi in June 2013.
Waked played his first significant role in the film "Are we friends or is it just business" (2002); critics wrote that he played the role of Jahad so well that many viewers leaving the theaters thought she was actually a Palestinian actor, not an Egyptian one. He performed his first leading role in the film Fishtail (2003), and in 2005 he worked with George Clooney on the set of the film Siriana, for which he received a special prize in 2006 at the Cairo International Film Festival. Waked joined the cast of the Egyptian television series Critical Moments in 2007, appearing in 32 episodes of the first season.
In 2008, Waked appeared in the BBC / HBO miniseries "Saddam's House" as Hussein Kamel, Saddam Hussein's son-in-law. Since the lead role of Saddam Hussein was played by Israeli actor Ygal Naor, Waked faced punishment from the Egyptian actors' guild, which opposed the normalization of relations with Israel. The union threatened him with a ban on all projects in Egypt.
In 2009, Waked was co-host of the 33rd Cairo International Film Festival, and in 2010 he reappeared on the television series Critical Moments. In Contagion (2011), he starred opposite Hollywood stars Matt Damon, Jude Law, Kate Winslet and Gwyneth Paltrow, and also starred with Ewan McGregor, Emily Blunt and Christine Scott Thomas in the British film My Dream Fish (2012) and with Scarlett Johansson and Morgan Freeman in Lucy (2014).
