In the summer of 1957, Isaac De Bancole was born in Abidjan, the largest city in Cote d'Ivoire (western Africa). His family came from another former French colony - Benin. The future actor emigrated to France and at first wanted to become a civil aviation pilot, he entered to study in this specialty at a Paris university, but later chose an acting profession.
In 1984, at the age of 27, first appeared on the screens. He has appeared in several French films, including Black Trouble, for which he was awarded the Cesar Prize for Promising Young Actor. In 1989 he tried himself as a co-writer with Gerard Ury in the French-Italian film Vanilla-Strawberry Ice Cream.
In 1991 starred in the film by American director Jim Jarmusch. In the movie almanac Night in the Land, Bankole plays a Parisian taxi driver who gives a ride to a blind prostitute. After that, he starred in three more films of Jarmusch: in the gangster parable Ghost Dog: the Way of the Samurai, in one of the short films of the Coffee and Cigarette cycle, and also plays the main role of a lone killer in the Ultimate of Control.
