Started acting in films in 2009, having played in the film "New Year's Cinema". In 2010, the actor played the main role in the romantic comedy "Millionaire Wanted". In 2013, the action-packed film "Horseback Ride" was released jointly by filmmakers from Armenia and Kazakhstan. In this film, Hovhannes played the chess player Tigran Vardanyan, who accidentally finds himself in the way of robbers who are trying to steal rarities.
In 2016, the premiere of the lyrical comedy "Bet on Love" by director Artem Mikhalkov, in which Hovhannes Azoyan played one of the main roles, took place. His colleagues on the set were such famous Russian actors as Andrei Burkovsky, Ekaterina Shpitsa, Alexey Gorbunov, Alexander Revva and Alla Mikheeva.
