February 8, 1921 - June 29, 1995 - American actress, one of the most glamorous and sensual stars of classic Hollywood. Born into the family of a Tennessee miner who was killed when Lana was a child. Started acting at the age of 16. She was nicknamed "the girl in the sweater" for her addiction to wearing a wardrobe item that subtly emphasized her curvaceous form. For the filming of one of her first films, she plucked her eyebrows, but they never grew back, hence the other nickname - "the girl with painted eyebrows." In 1939, for one of the roles, Turner dyed her hair blonde and not only completely changed her image, but also acquired a new nickname - "The Queen of Nightclubs" .
Vying for the title of Hollywood's sexiest star with Rita Hayworth and Jane Russell, Turner starred in four films with renowned playboy Clark Gable. One of her most successful films was her early film noir, The Postman Always Rings Twice (1946). It is believed that during World War II, American soldiers preferred to hang her photographs and posters on the walls of the barracks. After the war, she starred mainly in musicals. Turner's career in the 1950s was uneven. One of the most artistically successful was Vincent Minnelli's The Angry and the Beautiful (1952), and for Peyton Place (1957) she was even nominated for an Oscar. The last major success was the painting by Douglas Sirk "Imitation of Life" (1959), which featured autobiographical motives: like her heroine, Turner single-handedly raised a daughter, whom she gave birth to in 1944. Lana Turner was married eight times, including the famous jazzman Artie Shaw (1940); millionaire Henry Topping (1948-52), who proposed by dropping a diamond ring into her martini glass; actor Lex Barker (1953-57), with whom she separated after he began to molest her thirteen-year-old daughter. After parting with him, Lana Turner was in touch with the famous mobster, Mickey Cohen's henchman, Johnny Stompanato. In April 1958, the actress found herself in the center of a grand scandal: during a family squabble, Turner's fourteen-year-old daughter, trying to protect her mother, stabbed her boyfriend Johnny Stompanato. In 1969-1972. was married to hypnotist Ronald Dante. Lana Turner passed away in 1995 from cancer at her home in Los Angeles. Her contributions to cinema have been starred on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.
