October 17, 1918 - May 14, 1987 - American film actress and dancer, one of the most famous Hollywood stars of the 1940s. Rita Hayworth (real name - Margarita Carmen Cansino, Margarita Carmen Cansino) was born in the family of the famous Spanish flamenco dancer, a native of Seville, Eduardo Cancino and the semi-Irish semi-English Volga Hayworth, a chorus girl from the show Flamenco Siegfeld. At the age of 12, she began performing with her father in nightclubs and in Spanish dance shows. In 1935, Rita Hayworth attracted the attention of 20th Century Fox and began acting in films. At first, Rita's roles were not very noticeable. Her first significant work was in Howard Hawkes's film Only Angels Have Wings (1939), where she performed alongside such stars as Cary Grant and Jean Arthur. The subsequent "Strawberry Blonde" (1941) directed by Raoul Walsh, "Blood and Sand" (1941) by Ruben Mamulyan, "Cover Girl" by Charles Widor (1944) make Rita Hayworth famous and popular. In the musical comedies Never Get Richer (1941) and You've Never Been More Delightful, where Hayworth stars alongside the famous Fred Astaire, moviegoers could see the actress in all her splendor. Here Rita came in handy dancing skills, which she studied all her life. The pinnacle of Hayworth's career was the love melodrama "Gilda" by Charles Widor (1946), which made her the indisputable goddess of Hollywood Olympus. Hayworth has also starred in films by George Cukor, Orson Welles, Joseph Mankiewicz, Georges Lautner, and other famous directors. Feminine charm and beauty made Rita Hayworth one of the most popular movie stars of her time, films with her participation were a huge success not only in the USA, but also in Europe. Despite the fact that in the film career of the actress (in the period 1937-1957) there were many "singing" roles, her singing was usually dubbed. Hayworth was repeatedly married, among her husbands was director Orson Welles, from whom she had a daughter, Rebecca. Rita starred in Wells's Lady of Shanghai, for which she had to cut her long red hair and turn into a blonde. Hayworth's third husband was Prince Ali Khan, then vice-president of the UN General Assembly, from whom she had a second daughter, Princess Yasmine Khan. The memory problems that began in Hayworth in the 1970s were initially associated with alcohol addiction and were not immediately diagnosed with Alzheimer's. Difficulty memorizing roles led to a gradual decline in career and, ultimately, to retirement from the cinema. In July 1981, Hayworth's condition deteriorated markedly, and the Los Angeles Supreme Court, considering that the actress could no longer take care of herself, placed her under the care of her daughter Yasmin, who took care of her in the last years of her life, and in May 1987, Rita Hayworth dies in her Manhattan apartment. Rita Hayworth is named one of the 100 Greatest Film Stars by the American Film Institute.
Despite appearing in over 60 films over 37 years, including starring in some of the best-known, acclaimed classics like Gilda, Rita Hayworth has never been nominated for an Oscar .
In a duet with John Wayne, Hayworth starred in the film Circus World (1964), for which she was nominated for a Golden Globe for Best Actress in a Drama Film (that year Anne Bancroft won the award for her role in the film Pumpkin Eater "). This is the only recorded nomination in her entire career. In 1977, Rita Hayworth is awarded the National Screen Heritage Award
