Steve McQueen - biography, date of birth, place of birth, filmography, clips, Director, Writer, Actor, Producer, Operator, Editor.

Born October 9, 1969, London, England, UK - British film director, screenwriter, actor, producer.

He shot his first short work in 1993 under the title "The Bear". Like several of McQueen's subsequent films, this one was black and white and mute. After The Bear, McQueen directed Five Easy Pieces (an allusion to the classic film of the same name with Jack Nicholson in the title role), Right Above My Head, and Impassive Face. The latter picture (a kind of tribute to the legendary Buster Keaton) brought the director in 1999 the most prestigious Turner Prize, which was awarded to him by a jury headed by Sir Nicholas Serota, director of the famous London Tate museums.

After his triumph in his native London, McQueen named the main sources of inspiration for his projects: the French new wave and the directorial work of Andy Warhol. Having moved to Amsterdam, McQueen continued to do what he loved. In 2007, at the height of the war in Iraq, the artist presented his most ambitious work - "The Queen and the Fatherland", dedicated to the memory of British soldiers who died at the front.

A year later, he directed his first full-length motion picture, the drama The Hunger, which recounts the events of the infamous 1981 Irish hunger strike. McQueen's debut was highly acclaimed by international film critics and brought the creator, among others, the Cannes Film Festival Golden Camera and the BAFTA Award for Most Promising Newcomer.

In 2009 he represented his native country at the next Venice Biennale. In 2011 he returned to the director's chair, filming the erotic drama "Shame" again with Fassbender in the title role. The film made much more noise than Hunger, which did not stop McQueen from winning three prizes at the Venice Film Festival and nominations for the Independent Spirit and BAFTA awards. In the same year, the director was awarded the Commander Order of the British Empire for his services in the field of fine arts.

In September 2013, McQueen's third directorial work, the historical drama "12 Years of Slavery", which has collected a huge number of awards and brought its director an Oscar for its production, was successfully premiered in September 2013.

In April 2014, he was named one of the 100 most influential people in the world by Time magazine. An Oscar winner for her role in 12 Years a Slave, Lupita Nyong'o, wrote a cheering speech for McQueen, titled The Passionate Storyteller.

Steve McQueen is the director of seven short and three feature films. Winner of the BAFTA and the Turner Award, and Commander of the Order of the British Empire for the Visual Arts. He has received a large number of awards for staging and producing the historical drama "12 Years of Slavery", including the Oscar. Prize-winner at world film festivals, including Cannes and Venice.

The press is often called one of the most talented and promising young filmmakers of our time.
