January 27, 1930 - June 23, 2013 - American blues and soul singer, original member of The Beale Streeters. He is sometimes credited with the nicknames "The Lion of the Blues" and "Sinatra in the Blues." Along with such musicians as Sam Cooke, Ray Charles and Junior Parker, Bland developed a direction of music that combines gospel, blues and rhythm and blues.
Bobby Bland was inducted into the Blues Hall of Fame in 1981, the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1992, and received a Lifetime Achievement Grammy in 1997.
