The Fabulous Thunderbirds was formed in 1974. / Blues-rock Taxas Blues /
After spending several years in Austin, Texas on the blues scene, FTB won a deal with Takoma / Chrysalis Records and later signed to Epic Records. FTB attracted attention only by adding new wave compositions to its repertoire. But, as it turned out, it was just a clever move.
The first two FTB albums, released in 1979 and 1980, with Keith Ferguson on bass and Mike Buck on drums, were initially out of favor. These recordings are made in the spirit of traditional 60s pop melody with a noticeable blues influence. FTB played a mix of Texas blues with a masterly Swamp Blues harpist with Slim Harpo and Lazy Lester, which they covered. Fabulous Thunder-birds have also tried their hand at hard rock, and this has fully justified itself, FTB equally attracts both lovers of traditional rhythm n blues and those who are looking for a hard sound in music. FTB's third album Butt-Rockin 'in 1981, with the addition of additional keyboards and brass section, brought the band even closer to the old rhythm and blues sound.
