In 1977, Harris returned to Memphis, and got a job as a typesetter at FedEx (Federal Express Corporation), where he worked until 1978.
It is known that after graduating from university, Harris got married. All that is known about the first husband is that he also studied at Rhodes and was a war veteran. In 1978, Charlene meets her second husband Hal Schultz, who proposes to her on the second date. And on August 5, 1978, Charlene Harris marries him. They had three children - Patrick, Timothy and Julia. Harris and his family currently reside in Magnolia, Columbia, Arkansas. Charlene Harris wrote her first novel, the detective Sweet and Deadly, in 1978 (as Harris herself recalls, after her husband Hal gave her an electric typewriter as a wedding present). The plot of the novel is based on the fact that the main character, a journalist by profession, is trying to solve the mystery of the murder of her parents in a small southern town. The book was published in 1981 by Houghton Mifflin. In the same place, in 1984, Harris's second novel, A Secret Rage, was published. Gruvemuvestart In 1990, Charlene began her first detective series, Aurora Teagarden, about a Georgia librarian whose life is not going the way she expected. Harris began her next detective cycle in 1996. These are the so-called "Shakespeare" books, which take place in the fictional city of Arkansas - Shakespeare. The main character Lily Bard, a young cleaning woman, formerly a victim of rape, is trying to find her place in society. In 2001, Harris begins another cycle - "Vampire Mysteries" (Southern Vampire Mysteries), about the vampires of the South and Sookie Stackhouse (possible translation of Sookie or Sookie Stackhouse), a telepathic waitress from the fictional city of Bon Temps in Louisiana, who fell in love with a vampire. Critics characterize this cycle as a humorous gothic vampire detective set in a modern world where vampires have civil rights. In addition to the novels of the cycle, Sookie Stackhouse is the heroine of two more stories by Harris, published in the anthologies Powers of Detection in 2004 and Bite in 2005. As of September 2011, eleven novels have been written, the twelfth is planned for release in the United States in May 2012 (in total, according to the signed contract, Charlene must write thirteen novels). In addition to the novels in the series, which became a retronym for the TV series "True Blood", a number of stories and stories about Sookie and the vampires were published. Some of them (five stories) were included in the author's collection published in 2009 by Charlene Harris "Not so that the dead (A Touch of Dead):" Fairy dust "2004," One Word Answer " 2005, "Dracula Night" 2007, "Luck" and "Gift Wrap" 2008. In the same world, described by the works of the cycle, but without Sookie's participation, the action of the story “Night's Edge” (published in 2004) takes place.
