Growing up in Columbus, Ohio, Corey Michael Smith considered a variety of career options, from pianist to lawyer. While studying at Otterbein University, Smith took part in the plays Scene, Caucasian Chalk Circle, Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf? and Tartuffe.
From 2009 to early 2012, Smith participated in productions of various regional theaters.
He made his Broadway debut in 2013 in Breakfast at Tiffany's.
