Born September 7, 1957, Louisville, Kentucky, USA is an American actress.
She grew up in Greenville, South Carolina and was educated at Florida State University. When she started her career, Jean Smith added the surname Cameron to her first name, as there was already another actor with a similar name in the industry.
Smith-Cameron has achieved her greatest success for her roles on the Broadway and Off-Broadway stages, where she has appeared in a total of over forty productions. In 1991, she was nominated for a Tony Award for Best Supporting Actress in Our Country's Good. She also received Obie and Drama Desk awards and was nominated for Drama Desk three more times for her roles in various plays. Her most notable works were in the productions of Crimes of the Heart, Give Me a Tenor, Tartuffe, or the Deceiver, When Night Comes and After Night and Music.
On television, Smith-Cameron starred in the daytime soap Guiding Light in 1984-1985, and then had a minor role on the sitcom Molly Dodd's Days and Nights in the 1990-1991 season. She also appeared on the TV series Law & Order, Law & Order: Special Victims Unit, and Law & Order. Malicious Intent ”, where she played different roles. In 2010-2011, she starred in the TV series True Blood, where she played the role of Melinda Mackens. Since 2013, she has been playing one of the central roles in the series "Fixing Errors".
