Born September 17, 1942 - American crime writer.
Previously, in 1969, he was working for the San Francisco Chronicle as a political cartoonist when the serial killer Zodiac case came to light. Graysmith was trying to decipher the letters written by the killer. Over the next 13 years, he became obsessed with the business, eventually bumping into the man he suspected in the workplace, Arthur Lee Allen. His second marriage ended in divorce, which he associates directly with his deep interest in the business. Graysmith wrote two books about this case. Over time, he abandoned his previous career, although he was nominated for a Pulitzer Prize as a cartoonist. Instead, he wrote five more books on high-profile crimes, one of which became the basis for the film "Autofocus" in 2002. The 2007 thriller Zodiac, directed by David Fincher, is also based in part on Grasmith's book, and is portrayed by actor Jake Gyllenhaal. Graysmith currently lives in San Francisco.
