May 12, 1925 - July 22, 2012 - American film director and screenwriter
Pearson served in the army during World War II, then graduated from Harvard. He worked as a correspondent for Time and Life magazines before selling his first script for television. From 1958 he worked in Hollywood, first as a script editor and then as a screenwriter for television series (Naked City, Route 66). He co-wrote several well-known films, including Cat Ballou and Cold-blooded Luke, both of which were Oscar nominated. The script for the film Noon Dogs earned him an Oscar in 1976.
Pearson has directed several notable films for television, including Dirty Pictures and The Conspiracy .
Pearson was president of the Screenwriters Guild of America, Western Branch (WGAW) from 1981-1983 and again from 1993-1995, and president of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences from 2001-2005.
Pearson was married three times and had two children. He died on July 22, 2012 at his home in Los Angeles as a result
