September 15, 1908 - November 12, 2003 - American actress.
She was born in Philadelphia in the family of the Irish-American newspaperman Benny McNulty, who in childhood gave her the nickname "Penny", because "she was as bright as a penny." She began performing in public in her youth with participation in vaudeville and theatrical performances. In 1930, Singleton made her big screen debut, where she continued to film extensively until 1950, appearing in films such as After the Thin Man (1936), Mad Miss Menton (1938) and The Young Widow (1946). At the same time, she often worked on radio, where from 1938 to 1950 she participated in the popular comedy show "Blondie" .
In the early 1950s, she moved to television, where she had roles in the television series Days in Death Valley, The Twilight Zone and Murder, She Wrote. Singleton is also best known for voicing Jane Jetson on Hanna-Barbera's hit sci-fi animated sitcom The Jetsons from 1962 to 1987.
The actress was married twice, becoming the mother of two daughters. Pennsy Singleton died in Sherman Oaks, Los Angeles from the effects of a stroke in 2003 at the age of 95. Buried in a Catholic cemetery in the San Fernando Valley. Singleton has been honored with two stars on the Hollywood Walk of Fame for her contributions to film and radio.
