Born February 14, 1978, Grinnell, Iowa, USA is an American actress and playwright.
Raised in a family of immigrants from Rhodesia. She later graduated from New York University and soon made her theater debut. In 2005, she wrote the play In the Continuum, which earned her Obie and Outer Critics Circle Awards.
In March 2012 it was announced that Danai Gurira would be playing Michonne in the third season of The Walking Dead TV series.
Shortly before filming for The Walking Dead, Danai Gurira starred in the independent film George Dosunmu's Mother. Gurira received critical praise for her performance in the film.
In April 2013, Danai Gurira was included in the list of “One Hundred Most Beautiful People” by People magazine.
In 2015, Gurir's play Eclipsed debuted on the off-Broadway stage. The production later moved to Broadway, which allowed it to be nominated for Tony.
